Day 1

Arrival in Sri Lanka
Welcome to Sri Lanka! Upon your arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, you will be met by a representative of SLVP who will accompany you to your hotel in Negombo.Program of the Day:

Day 2

Negombo
Take the day to explore and unwind in Negombo, a lively city situated on Sri Lanka's west coast. Once a bustling port town during the Dutch colonial period, Negombo is now known for its stunning beaches, vibrant fish market, and charming old town. Visit St. Mary's Church, one of the largest cathedrals in Sri Lanka, admire the Dutch architecture in the old town, and stroll along the picturesque beach. Use this time to acclimate, shake off any jet lag, and get ready for the exciting "Sri Lankan Odyssey" tour, a 14-day adventure with SLVP.Suggested Activities:
  • Visit the vibrant Fish Market early in the morning.

Day 3

Wilpattu National Park
After breakfast, we will depart for Wilpattu National Park, one of the largest and most beautiful national parks in Sri Lanka. Wilpattu is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, including the elusive Sri Lankan leopard, Sri Lankan sloth bear, and Asian elephant. Enjoy a jeep safari through the park and get a chance to see these animals in their natural habitat. In addition to the wildlife, Wilpattu is also known for its ancient ruins, including the Kudiramalai point, which is believed to have been a Buddhist monastery in ancient times.Program of the Day:

Anuradhapura Sacred City | Trincomalee
After a delightful breakfast at the campsite, our tour commences with a visit to the revered ancient city of Anuradhapura. This UNESCO World Heritage site holds immense historical and religious significance in Sri Lanka. Serving as the country's initial capital, Anuradhapura is adorned with prominent Buddhist temples and monasteries. Marvel at the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree, said to have sprouted from a sapling of the Bodhi tree beneath which the Buddha attained enlightenment in Bodhgaya, India. Explore the enchanting ruins of this ancient city, including the magnificent Ruwanwelisaya stupa and the awe-inspiring Abhayagiri monastery complex. Once we conclude our exploration, we will proceed to Trincomalee, where you will indulge in a delightful two-day beach getaway.Program of the Day:

Spend two days here enjoying the sun, sand, and sea. You can visit the famous Koneswaram Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and take a boat ride to Pigeon Island, a national park and marine sanctuary, where you can snorkel and see a variety of tropical fish and coral.Suggested Activities:

Day 7

Polonnaruwa | Habarana
After an early breakfast, we will depart for the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the second capital of Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa thrived during the 11th and 12th centuries and is known for its well-preserved ruins, including the Royal Palace, image houses, and the massive rock-cut Buddha statues. Following our exploration of Polonnaruwa, we will head to Minneriya National Park, where you'll have the opportunity to witness majestic elephants in their natural habitat. On completion of our safari, we'll return to our hotel in Habarana, where you can enjoy the hotel amenities and relax for the remainder of the day. Program of the Day:
  • Check out your hotel and leave for Polonnaruwa ancient city.
  • Visit the Archaeological Museum of Polonnaruwa.
  • Drive or cycle in the archaeological site.
  • Evening Jeep safari at Minneriya National Park.
  • Indulge in an Ayurvedic Herbal massage to end the day (not included in the package).

Day 8

Sigiriya | Dambulla | Matale | Kandy
In the morning, we will visit the iconic Sigiriya rock fortress, another UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most impressive historical and architectural landmarks in Sri Lanka. Sigiriya is a massive rock formation that was once a royal palace and fortress during the reign of King Kasyapa in the 5th century AD. After visiting Sigiriya, we will drive to Dambulla Cave Temples, another UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most impressive Buddhist cave temple complexes in Sri Lanka. The five caves are filled with stunning murals and sculptures of the Buddha and other deities. After exploring the cave temples, we will drive to the beautiful hill city of Kandy, which is known for its rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty. Check in to your hotel in Kandy and relax in the evening. Program of the Day:
  • Climb Sigiriya (Lion Rock) rock fortress.
  • Hike to Pidurangala Rock (Optional, depending on the time).

Day 9

Kandy
Today, we will visit the Temple of the Tooth, one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka and the final resting place of the tooth relic of the Buddha. The temple is located in the heart of Kandy, which was the last royal capital in Sri Lanka and is an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists around the world. After visiting the temple, we will explore the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, which is one of the most beautiful and well-maintained botanical gardens in Asia, and on completion, witness a traditional Kandyan dance performance, which showcases the unique culture of the region. Return to your hotel and unwind and relax in the evening. Program of the Day:

Haputale
Today, we will embark on a picturesque journey towards Haputale, a charming hill town nestled amidst the tea plantations that adorn Sri Lanka's scenic countryside. Haputale is renowned for its breathtaking vistas of rolling hills and verdant valleys, offering a serene escape with its cool climate and invigorating atmosphere. As we make our way, we have the opportunity to visit a tea factory, immersing ourselves in the fascinating world of tea cultivation and production. Additionally, we will explore the iconic landmarks of Nuwara Eliya, a renowned holiday resort established during the British colonial era in Sri Lanka. Prepare to be captivated by the alluring charm and natural beauty that await us on this delightful expedition. Suggested Activities:
  • Visit a tea factory in en route to Haputale and learn about the tea process.

Day 11

Ella | Haputale
Today, we will begin our journey to the charming town of Ella with a unique Sri Lankan breakfast experience in a paddy field. After breakfast, we will hike to the upper Diyaluma waterfall, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim in natural ponds and take in the stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Then, we will continue on to Ella, known for its picturesque waterfalls and tea estates. Once in Ella, we will visit Mini Adam's Peak, which offers panoramic views of the endless vistas below. You can also explore the Nine Arch Bridge, a picturesque bridge that spans across the valley. Make sure to take some time to discover the cozy corners of Ella, known as the honey pot of travelers to Sri Lanka. Program of the Day:

  • Thrilling hike to the upper part of Diyaluma waterfall, where it begins its majestic descent.

The 12th day of your tour will begin with a relaxing breakfast before we depart for Galle. En route, we will stop at the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home, a sanctuary that rescues and rehabilitates orphaned elephants before releasing them back into the wild. This is an opportunity for us to witness the incredible work being done to protect and support these gentle giants and learn more about their natural habitat and behavior. After our visit, we'll continue on our journey to the historic city of Galle, where we'll spend the night and prepare for the final day of our unforgettable adventure. Program of the Day:
  • Visit Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe en route to Galle.
  • Check in to your hotel and relax.

Day 13

Galle
Today, we will explore the charming city of Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which was once a bustling port town during the Dutch colonial period. Visit the Galle Fort, a massive fortification that was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later expanded by the Dutch. The fort is filled with narrow streets, historic buildings, and charming cafes and boutiques. You can also visit the Maritime Museum, which showcases the city's rich maritime heritage, or simply stroll along the picturesque streets and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. Program of the Day:
  • Go to Unawatuna Beach and relax for the entire day there. Or you can:
  • Take a walk around the Galle Fort and learn about Portuguese and Dutch influence.
  • Visit the picturesque Jungle Beach in Unawatuna and relax.
  • Go on snorkeling or a boat ride to see the beautiful coral reefs (Optional).
  • Visit the Rumassala Peace Pagoda.
  • Take a surf lesson in Unawatuna (Optional).
  • Visit the Galle Lighthouse.
  • Take a Tuk-Tuk ride around Galle (Optional).
  • Visit the Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum (Optional).
  • Or you are free to relax the entire day.

Departure
