Program Location
This program is based in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka.
Program Goals:
- To provide female volunteers and families with an opportunity to contribute to the welfare of girls in a meaningful way.
- To empower the girls in the home and help them develop life skills.
- To promote cross-cultural understanding and exchange between volunteers and local communities.
- To provide volunteers with an opportunity to learn about Sri Lankan culture and society.
Program Activities:
Volunteers will be coaching cricket at local schools, which will involve planning and delivering training sessions, working with students to improve their skills, and organising games and tournaments. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to explore the local community and culture.
Program Duration:
This program is available for a minimum of 4 weeks up to a maximum of 12 weeks.
Application requirements:
- This program is open to volunteers of all ages and backgrounds who have experience and expertise in cricket coaching.
- Volunteers should be enthusiastic, patient, and willing to work with students of varying ages and abilities and local teachers of the relevant subject.
- Volunteers must have a good command of English.
- All volunteers must be at least 18 years older.
- Volunteers must have a valid passport and obtain a visa to enter Sri Lanka.
- Police Background Check: All volunteers are required to provide a police background check prior to starting the program. This is to ensure the safety and protection of the children and the local community.
Accommodation:
Volunteers will be provided with safe and comfortable shared accommodations, located at the project or within close proximity. Basic amenities such as beds, fans, and bathroom facilities will be provided to ensure volunteers have a comfortable stay during their time in the program. The accommodation will offer a chance for volunteers to connect with like-minded individuals and share experiences, fostering a sense of camaraderie and cultural exchange. Families will have private bedrooms and bathroom facilities. Volunteers will also have access to a communal kitchen and living area.
Meals:
Volunteers will be provided with three nutritious meals per day, including vegetarian options. The meals will be prepared using locally sourced ingredients, giving volunteers an opportunity to savour traditional Sri Lankan cuisine.
