Program Overview
Working with Children Volunteer Program:
The Working with Children Volunteer Program is designed to provide volunteers with a unique and comprehensive experience in working closely with children. Participants will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children in various settings, such as children's homes and schools. Volunteers will provide support, education, mentorship, and engage in activities that promote positive relationships, enhance self-esteem, and foster personal development.
Turtle Conservation Volunteer Program:
The Turtle Conservation Volunteer Program aims to create a lasting impact on the marine ecosystem by actively participating in turtle conservation efforts. Volunteers will contribute to the preservation of endangered sea turtles in Sri Lanka. Activities may include monitoring nesting sites, protecting eggs, assisting in hatchling releases, and conducting educational programs to raise awareness about the importance of turtle conservation.
After completing the Working with Children Volunteer Program, volunteers will have the opportunity to join the Turtle Conservation Volunteer Program. This sequential arrangement allows volunteers to fully immerse themselves in each project, gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by both vulnerable populations. Participants will develop cross-cultural communication skills, expand their horizons, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you have a passion for working with children or a love for marine life, these programs offer fulfilling and rewarding experiences for individuals dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and sea turtles in Sri Lanka.

Program Activities:
Working with Children:- Teaching English: Volunteers will assist in English language lessons, helping children enhance their language skills and improve their educational opportunities. This may involve organizing interactive lessons, conducting educational activities, and providing individualized support.
- Recreational Activities: Volunteers will organize and participate in recreational activities such as sports, games, arts and crafts, and outdoor adventures. These activities aim to promote creativity, teamwork, and the overall well-being of the children.
- Aesthetic Activities: Volunteers will engage children in creative projects, such as painting, drawing, or music, allowing them to express themselves artistically and explore their talents.
- Support at Children's Homes: Volunteers will provide assistance to the staff at children's homes, participating in daily routines, offering emotional support, and organising educational and recreational activities for the children.
- Working with Children with Special Needs: Volunteers will work closely with children who have special needs, providing personalised attention, and implementing activities tailored to their abilities and interests.
- Nest Protection: Volunteers will participate in the protection of sea turtle nests by monitoring nesting sites, marking and relocating eggs to safer areas, and implementing measures to prevent predation and human interference.
- Hatchery Management: Volunteers will contribute to the operation and management of turtle hatcheries, including monitoring incubation temperatures, maintaining clean and safe conditions, and ensuring the well-being of hatchlings.
- Release Programs: Volunteers will assist in organizing and conducting turtle release programs, educating local communities and tourists about the importance of sea turtle conservation, and promoting responsible behavior towards these creatures.
- Data Collection: Volunteers will gather essential data on turtle populations, nesting activities, and migration patterns, contributing to scientific research and conservation efforts.
- Beach Cleanups: Volunteers will participate in beach cleanups to remove plastic debris and other pollutants that pose threats to sea turtles and their habitats.
Program Duration:
Working with Children:
The program duration for working with children ranges from 2 to 10 weeks, allowing volunteers to immerse themselves in the local community and establish meaningful connections with the children.
Turtle Conservation:
The program duration for turtle conservation is typically 1 to 4 weeks, providing volunteers with a hands-on experience in marine conservation and contributing to the long-term survival of sea turtles.
Application requirements:
- This program is open to both male and female volunteers..
- All volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Children accompanied by their parents are also eligible.
- Volunteers should possess a genuine passion for working with children and the well-being and conservation of elephants.
- Volunteers must be physically fit and capable of engaging in activities that may involve manual labor and working in outdoor environments.
- Volunteers should show respect for local customs, traditions, and cultural significance in Sri Lanka.
- Volunteers must have a valid passport.
- Volunteers must obtain a visa to enter Sri Lanka.
- Volunteers must have valid travel insurance.
- Police Background Check: All volunteers are required to provide a police background check when applying for the program to ensure the safety and protection of the local community.
Accommodation:
Volunteers will be provided with safe and comfortable shared accommodations, located at the elephant care project or within close proximity. Basic amenities such as beds, fans, and bathroom facilities will be provided to ensure volunteers have a comfortable stay during their time in the program. The accommodation will offer a chance for volunteers to connect with like-minded individuals and share experiences, fostering a sense of camaraderie and cultural exchange.
Meals:
Volunteers will be provided with three nutritious meals per day, including vegetarian options. The meals will be prepared using locally sourced ingredients, giving volunteers an opportunity to savour traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. Dietary restrictions or preferences can be accommodated if communicated in advance.
